Left or Right: BFA Degree Project

This poster series combines Latin letterforms with either their phonetic or historic counterpart in the Arabic abjads. It started as an excercise for the annual 36 Days of Type initiative on Instagram.

Historically, almost all of these letterforms evolved from the first recorded proper alphabet, the Phoenician. The world since then changed and created borders between civilizations. This simply fascinates me. In addition to the brief historical inquiry, the project explores more my interest in language in terms of meaning and formal qualities.

This project was selected by AIGA Boston to showcase in the exhibition, New Voices, Unique Visions in 2016.
